Illegal firearms found in SUV

A police operation in St Thomas resulted in the arrest of a construction worker and the seizure of an illegal firearm on October 11.

Damaine Drysdale, 42, otherwise called 'Messi', of Claire Road, White Hall district, has been charged with possession of prohibited weapon, unauthorised possession of ammunition, trafficking in prohibited weapon, stockpiling prohibited weapon and alteration of mark on prohibited weapon. Reports from the Morant Bay police are that at 10:30 p.m., a team of police acting on information, intercepted Drysdale who was driving a Honda CR-V motor vehicle along Stanton Road, Morant Bay. The vehicle was searched and one black Taurus 9mm pistol with one magazine affixed along with one black AMG rifle with nine 5.56mm, one .223 and four 9mm rounds of ammunition were recovered.

Drysdale was arrested and subsequently charged after a question-and-answer session on Monday. Preparations for his court date are under way.
