Two men were gunned down and a high-powered M16 rifle seized during two early morning police operations in St Catherine on Thursday, both linked to the mass shooting in Commodore, Linstead that left five people dead and four others injured.
The first raid happened shortly after 5:00 a.m., when a joint police-military team went to a premises at Jewels Estate, Nollis, Bog Walk. According to the police, the team was met by a man armed with a rifle who reportedly pointed it at them.
Lawmen opened fire, and the man was later pronounced dead. An M16 rifle, a magazine, and ammunition were seized.
Later, investigators carried out a second connected operation along Grange Lane in the parish. Cops say they intercepted a vehicle carrying several men who opened fire on them. The gunfire was returned, and when the shooting subsided, one man was found suffering from gunshot wounds. A pistol was taken from him. He was taken to the Spanish Town Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Both incidents have been reported to the Independent Commission of Investigations. Detectives from the St Catherine North Police Division are continuing their probe.
