73-y-o woman abducted in Trinidad, found on boat heading to Venezuela
A 73-year-old grandmother who was abducted from her home in Trinidad by armed men was rescued at sea hours later, in what authorities say was a cross-border kidnapping plot, according to the Trinidad Express.
Tara Poliah was taken from her San Juan home about 7:30 pm on Wednesday after three men reportedly pounced on her, covered her mouth and forced her into a waiting vehicle. The abduction was captured on CCTV.
Hours later, lawmen tracked the suspects to a boat off Trinidad's north coast, where Poliah was found. Police said she was being taken to Venezuela when the Coast Guard intervened.
Several men were initially held on the vessel, and two additional suspects were later detained, bringing the total to ten.
Police say the operation has dealt a major blow to a suspected kidnapping network.
Poliah has since been safely recovered, while investigations continue into the incident and the search for another missing man.
