Live music promoter wants to revive show scene
Marcia Griffiths is the headliner for Saturday Night Live, a show scheduled for November 29 at Sky Ultra Lounge in St Andrew.
The Queen of Reggae will be backed by Lloyd Parks and We The People Band. Saturday Night Live is expected to be a monthly affair featuring popular and up-and-coming artistes. The show's promoter is businessman Roderick Graham.
"I just want to create an intimate experience that gives an up, close and personal vibe with the artiste," he said.
Graham's main goal is to revive the show scene in the Corporate Area, which lags behind Ocho Rios, St Ann, Montego Bay, St James, and Negril, Westmoreland, in terms of live entertainment. That was not the case in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s when the Jamaican capital had numerous clubs with resident bands. Many musicians such as Parks, drummer Sly Dunbar and keyboardist Robbie Lyn cut their teeth on that circuit during the 1970s.
Chaka Demus and Pliers are confirmed to be the second act for Saturday Night Live in December. The event will be held the final Saturday of each month.
