Former Jamaica Premier League (JPL) topscorer Javane Bryan failed to convert a late penalty, forcing Waterhouse FC to settle for a 1-1 draw with Mount Pleasant Football Academy, in the feature football match at Waterhouse Mini Stadium yesterday.

Jamoi Topey's 19th-minute header put Mount Pleasant in front. But Kenly Deacon's 39th-minute goal levelled the score before half-time.

However, Bryan, who has not been having the best of seasons, got a glorious opportunity to give the home team all three points 10 minutes from the end, but could not beat Tafari Chambers from 12 yards.

Although many of the home fans saw it as two points dropped, Waterhouse's coach Marcel Gayle credited his players for their positive play throughout.

"Workmanlike performance from the players today," he stated. "After going down from a set piece, it could have knocked the wind out of us. But we held our composure and held our heads. We stuck behind the ball and forced them into mistakes.

"I think we surprised them a bit and Kenly Deacon was the trump card for us today (Sunday)."

FIRST THREAT

Although Waterhouse were the first to really threaten, it was the visitors who opened the scoring through Topey, who rose above the Waterhouse defence to head home from a corner.

However, Waterhouse kept pushing forward and were rewarded with a goal, thanks to a wonderful individual effort from Deacon, who left his marker for dead before firing home.

Waterhouse had a great chance to retake the lead in the 89th minute when Deacon was brought down by goalkeeper Chambers in the area, after a swift counter move.

However, to the dismay of the home fans, Bryan kicked straight at Chambers, who punched the ball clear.

Nevertheless, Fletcher came close to winning it for Waterhouse late on, but his shot from six yards was saved by Chambers. Then a splendid free kick moments later was touched over for a corner.

TOO MANY GOALS

Mount Pleasant's coach Theodore Whitmore said it was a hard earned point, but noted that they have been leaking too many goals.

"It was a hard fought game coming back from the Caribbean Cup. After we gave up the lead, we had a bad patch. We didn't manage the game properly," he assessed.

"But something that is of concern is that we are conceding in the Premier League. It's four games in the Premier League and we keep conceding, so it's something to look at," he said.

Waterhouse stayed fourth on 10 points, while Mount Pleasant are ninth on six points.

In the opening game at Drewsland, Nigerian Wisdom Ubani scored a second half brace to rescue a point for Molynes United against Spanish Town Police, who took the lead through first half goals from Jordan Elliston and Diamond Clarke.

At the Edward Seaga Complex, Cavalier turned back Tivoli 2-0 with two goals in the last 15 minutes from Christopher Ainsworth and Jamilhio Rigters.

At Turners Oval, league leaders MoBay United came from a goal down to beat Chapelton Maroons 2-1. Andrew Vanzie gave Chapelton a fifth-minute lead. But goals from Okeemo Jones and Dwight Merrick saw MoBay to victory.

The other game between Portmore and Racing ended 0-0.

MoBay United lead the league with 16 points, followed by Portmore and Racing on 12, then Waterhouse, Chapelton and Cavalier are on 10 each, to complete the top six.

Spanish Town Police sit at the foot of the table with two points.
