Bloody six days in St James - Two dead in numerous shootings
Two persons were shot and killed, and three others, including a female, shot and injured, during four separate shooting incidents in St James over the past six days.
The Jamaica Constabulary Force commanding officer in charge of the State of Emergency in St James, Senior Superintendent Anthony Morris, told WESTERN STAR that in order to quell the recent upsurge in shootings, the police presence has been ramped up throughout the parish.
"Starting today (Monday), residents will now see a much larger contingency of police officers who have been deployed throughout every major street in Montego Bay, such as the town centre, the Transport Centre, and within several communities," Morris said. "We have blended more with the military, and have set up more patrols, and stop and search in the communities ".
He said this will continue throughout the nights, and during the course of the holidays into the New Year.
The deceased are 48-year-old bus operator Glendora Jackson, otherwise called 'Blacks' of Barrett Lane in Montego Bay and 41-year-old Nigel Williams.
